Looking forward to what’s next…

forwardIt’s been a while since I’ve last written a blog post. In fact, it’s been almost six months. I could go on for hours as to the reasons and excuses as to why I took a long hiatus from writing, but in truth, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that I’m back!

So often in life we (myself clearly included) let ourselves go for far too long and think that there’s no way back. Whether it is “I haven’t written for six whole months so how do I just start writing again?” or “I’ve let my body go for a month, been eating like crap and what’s the point of getting back in shape as it’s only going to remind me of how I’ve let myself go,” or any other type of situation — we’ve all been there; and we must be kind to ourselves and understand that it’s OK.

Whether it’s feeling frustrated, depressed or angry at how you’ve been handling certain things in life, know that everyone goes through it and it’s part of life.

The trick is to understand that the key to turning something around is to accept the past circumstances and to recognize that you are at choice for how things will turn out. What was – was, what is – is, and what can be in your future is up to you.

With that mindset, I decided to start blogging again and similarly, declared to get back into competitive lifting shape! It’s never too late! Making that switch in your head and taking consistent action in the direction of your choice, albeit challenging at times, is doable!

I find that it also helps to utilize a future event, milestone or goal as a catalyst to get things moving back in the right direction.

For me, the greatest joy this past year was the birth of my niece Ava Monique Zilber ava.

In 60 days, she will be visiting NYC for the first time with her parents. To say that I am excited is an understatement. It’s been since April since I got to hold her and although we FaceTime often, being in her physical presence is priceless. Knowing that she’s coming in just two months has caused me to reevaluate how I’ve been handling myself these past six months and has been my drive to get back in the right direction. I want her to be proud of her Titi. I am using these 60 days as a jumpstart to getting myself back into blogging, eating healthily and focusing on my training and my mindset.

What about you? How do you get yourself back in the right direction? What’s your catalyst? What are you looking forward to?
